Are you a Goal Achiever or Goal Misser?

Goal setting and goal achievement are separated by these words:

“Any task will take the amount of time you allow it.” – Gary Ryan Blair

That quote there is loaded with all the principles that either drive success or foster failure. How urgent are you about attaining your goals? Let me give you an analytical table that will help you to answer that question.

Here is a contrast between the behavioural traits of people who achieve their goals within planned times and those who seem to never achieve their goals.

Goal Achievers Goals Missers
Focus – See the goal in their mind’s eye and go for it without flinching or apologising Easily Distracted – Set goals but do not visualize them. Carried whichever way the wind blows
Accountable – Take full responsibility of the results that they have or produce. Blamers – Look for a person or circumstance to blame for not having expected results
Consistency – They do the small tasks that contribute to their goals repeatedly without fail until the results manifest. They patiently take the steps required. Inconsistency – Have fluctuating commitment depending on their mood and how hard or difficult the situation or conditions are. They underestimate the power of little steps.
Positive Attitude – They are incurably optimistic, believing best outcomes all the time Negative Attitude – Incurably pessimistic, believing for worst results all the time
Certainty – Believe that they will achieve their goals by following the plan they thought out and set Doubt – They seek others’ opinions to validate their decided course of action. Their commitment depends on how others think.
Decisiveness – Resolute and conclusive about action to take Indecision – Keep shifting the course of action to take
Self-reliance – they understand that if it is to be, it is up to them and no one else Dependency Syndrome – Depend on others action for them to take action
Compress Time – Act with speed Expand Time – Take their time
Discipline – Not afraid of pain. They push through it Excuses – Justify themselves. Have plausible reasons why goals were not met
Cease the moment – Strike while the iron is hot Procrastinate – Postpone start date and move deadlines forward
Meticulous – Pay attention to detail Tardy – Do and act anyhow
Confident – Act on their knowledge and learn quickly what they do not know without shame. Low self-esteem – Ashamed of asking what they do not know. Too self-conscious
Steadfast – Unshakable Yo-yo behaviour – Not grounded
Patient – Understand that success is a process and they respect the process In a Hurry – Always looking for the short-cut or fastest way of doing things
Self-control – They are masters of their lives and emotions Circumstantial – Depend on the environment around them to set their work mode

This list is not comprehensive but it paints the picture.

My aim in giving you this list is for you to take an inventory of the kind of action taker that you are. The weak link between goals and their accomplishments is in the implementation. The way in which you implement your plans is very dependent on your philosophy, your belief system. Which side of the table you have the most ticks is a reflection of your mind programming.

That opens a whole Pandora’s box of how you can then move from where you are to where you want to be if you see a gap. If you are keen to know how you can shift from being predominantly on the right-hand side of the table to the left side; keep an eye on your email inbox this week. I am going to share with you an amazing system for you to work with that will cause that shift to happen dramatically so you start producing the results you have always dreamt of.

Home Meetings – How to Create an Endless Stream of These and More

Besides using the internet as a tool for growing your business, another method to use are Home Meetings. Home meetings are business meetings that you organize at your home or the homes of your team members.

Home meetings are particularly valuable for your new members. Through the home meetings, new members in your team can expose their new venture to the people closest to them in one sitting. Their home is the best place to do that. The people they will invite are the closest to them, their warm market. Their warm market people are most likely comfortable being invited to the new member’s home as opposed to being invited to a hotel or club meeting.

Having established the value of a home meeting, how then can we help you to make sure that your team has a number of them running continually. Take note of the below checklist.

  1. Create an Excellent Home Meeting Team Culture

Nothing will kill team morale like members who only participate in team activities when it suits or serves them. Train your team to have the excellent culture of showing up whether or not they have guests confirmed. The number of team members who show up will give confidence to even the guest who show up. Imagine if one guest shows up and they find only the presenter and the host. That would cause them to doubt the credibility and value of what they have been invited to.

The benefits of every member participating in home meetings serve the entire team. Not every member will have a guest at every meeting. So, on days when a member has no guest, they can help other members to add energy and a good vibe to the meeting. They can also contribute by sharing their story as well as with closing at the end of the home meeting. Other members will also reciprocate on days when they do not have guests. My adage about this is “You either need the meeting, or the meeting needs you.”

As the team leader, add value to them attending by doing a short training exclusively for members before the guests arrive or have a quick Fast Start Training afterwards for members and those guests who sign up.

  1. Teach Your Team Good Home Meeting Etiquette

Bad manners from members will encourage bad manners from guests. Good manners from members will encourage good manners from guests. Things to look out for that can actually constitute content of the pre-meeting members training are:

  • No cellphone usage during the presentation
  • No shop talk in the presence of guests, especially negative talk or complaining about business challenges or using industry specific jargon.
  • All members to be engaged and participate in the presentation. Laugh at the presenter’s jokes. Applaud where applause is required etc.
  • Keep the energy high and the conversation positive throughout.
  1. Help Your New Team Member to Over-Invite

Not everyone who confirms that they will attend will attend. That is just the reality on the ground. For some individuals, their word is not binding on them. What you can do to cover for that behaviour is to invite more people than you need to attend. The day before the home meeting, come together with your host and other team members. Do what I call a sizzle call session. Together invite as many people from your lists as you can. Keep the invite calls brief (45 seconds) and pack in as many invites as the number of minutes that you have. Do not overthink about the names, just invite. Show your new team member by doing, how a good invite is done. Keep the call session to an hour and then disperse. Each of you in that one hour should have done at least 45 calls. That should give you enough confirmations to ensure a reasonable attendance.

  1. Book A Meeting from a Home Meeting

There are several ways of booking a meeting from a home meeting.

  • Whether or not there are sign ups, tell your guests the next meeting that they should attend. If your team does a weekly meeting where your entire team converges at a hotel, that’s the meeting to send them to. It will keep your guests in the information loop and will also show them the bigger picture of your opportunity. They will hear a broader spectrum of stories from other team members who were not at that smaller home meeting.
  • For those who sign up, help them to book a date within a day or two for their own home meeting. We call it a Launch Meeting or a Big Announcement Meeting. By so doing with each new member who joins the team, can you see how you can easily fill up your calendar with home meetings. You may end up splitting your pool of leaders and have several home meetings running in one night.
  • If you do online webinars, direct guests to the webinars. Whether or not they sign up, attending your webinars will show them that your team has a vision and support system to grow beyond the town where they live, even internationally. Once they see the value of that, those who were fence sitters because they were worried that they have a small catchment in their local city could decide to get started. Just expose every member of your team and their prospects to the entire team support system that you have created.

There is always a Price to pay!

Never be caught off guard. Always count the cost of any venture that you go into. That way you will be prepared for the inevitable price to pay.

When you start out as network marketer, the obvious cost to you as a new rep is the start-up money. This can be anything between $100 and $500 depending on your opportunity. Once you have paid that start-up money the real action begins.

You need to understand that the investment that will build you a successful business is bigger than the money that you pay to get started. If you had not done the exercise of calculating the full price to pay for you to succeed in your home business, then now is a good time. It is never too late to do a cost/benefit analysis of any venture that you are in. Taking that kind of stock enables you to make necessary adjustments going forward.

I will endeavour to highlight for you the major hard and soft costs that you must be prepared to pay if you are to be successful network marketer.

  1. The First Price To Pay – Your Dignity and Status

Network Marketing is still considered an abstract way of making a living by a lot of mainstream thinkers. So what it means is that 98%, if not all of the people you know will not understand you for taking the route of building a career in this industry. You are going to meet ridicule, resistance, well-meaning advice and even outright disrespect for your choice. Coming from a conventional professional background as a water scientist myself, I know what I am talking about.

Best practice as a new rep is to share your product with your hot or warm market first. Starting out without a success story of your own, the professional colleagues, friends and family members who constitute that first stream of potential customers for you can be the worst people to talk to. The sad thing is that many of them are not brave enough to tell you to your face what they think but will instead send out these innuendos and vibes that say “You have lost it. Shame.” This is when self-doubt sets in. You start questioning your decision to be a network marketing entrepreneur. If you do not prepare yourself mentally to pay the price, you will quit and I do not wish that for you. Be mentally and emotionally geared for it by resolving to stick to your dream no matter what other people say or think.

Now before any red flags start flying and you vow never to tell your warm market about you product and opportunity, read this article I wrote on How To Correctly Engage Your Warm Market

  1. The Second Price To Pay – Time Constraints

My assumption is that you are doing network marketing on a part-time basis for a start. That is how I started as well. This comes with its own challenges. Obviously, you had a life before becoming an entrepreneur. Juggling all the roles that you had before with your business venture will be a challenge. There are time sacrifices that you will have to make to accommodate your business and meet your goals. What kind of time sacrifices will these be? Obviously, if you are in full time employment, those 8-9 hours at work are not available for your business. You have the few hours outside of work to do everything else and then be rested enough to be functional at the office every day. So, where will the sacrifices need to be made? It is in the amount of time you spend socially and with family.

  • You will need to reduce TV or sports watching. Do I hear a moan from the soap loving ladies and the sport-loving guys?
  • Time with family will need to be negotiated to accommodate your business goals. You need to make your family understand that they will see less of you but you will make it worth everybody’s while once you achieve what you set out to do. If You make that promise, discharge yourself well in your business, achieve the promised results and build your credibility with your loved ones.
  • There are chores that friends may have asked you to do for them in the past. It will become more difficult for you to carve out time for such commitments. You need to find a way of dealing with that.
  • Obviously, this list is not exhaustive. I would love to hear from you in the comments below what other time related sacrifices you have had to make to grow your business.
  1. The 3rd Price To Pay – Training Costs

Without a doubt, training (Team and Corporate) will play a significant role in growing your business. You will also need to purchase personal development books, audios and videos. Chances are when you saw the presentation and decided to become a rep, you really had not been looking to become a business owner that day. That means you probably have no experience as an entrepreneur. Team and Corporate training will help you with developing the skills that you need for success. Personal development training will build you up as an individual to have the mental capacity and emotional intelligence to grow your business into a flourishing entity. Training will cost you in money as well as time. With regards the money I love our profession because we get paid as we learn. It is possible for you to raise the money to cover training from initial product sales that you make on your way to greatness. With regards to time, see (2) above.

As you face the challenge of paying for the above 3 costs keep this in mind: Anything worth having has a high cost of acquisition. If you are willing to pay the price, the glorious benefits of becoming a successful network marketing entrepreneur will be all yours. Are you willing to pay the price?

There Is Power in Having Focus

You will agree with me that there are many destructions along the way to achieving your goals. Well, if you did not know, now you know. How many times have you set goals and not achieved them? How did that feel? Disempowering hey! There are only 24 hours in a day, there is only one of you, yet there is so much to be done.

Get back your power! How, you ask, do you make sure that you achieve the goals that you set for yourself in the important areas of your life? You set out to achieve A, B, and C by a certain date, but while you are on this journey, D, E, and F come up and demand your time and even material resources. Is there a way around that?

To become more successful at attaining your goals, you’ve got to have FOCUS. When you take a photograph with any camera, you get the clearest picture when the lens has a focus on the object you are taking a picture of.

So, having focus means having clarity about what you want. Focus means knowing what you want, aiming for it and doing all it takes for you to achieve it. There are attributes of being focused that are a fuel to you achieving your goals. With focus, you take what seems to be distant and you bring it closer.

  1. Focus Creates Domination For You – How is that? When you are focused, nothing will take you off course. Like a laser you will cut through every obstacle and distruction with nothing else on your mind besides getting what you want. The competition will know you for getting what you say you will get and they will respect you for it.  With such a track record, you can walk tall and win. Your clients and potential clients will know this about you. Therefore, you will attract opportunities to you without making much effort.
  2. Focus Gives You Strength Over Obstacles – When you have focus, no obstacle is too big for you. You see, you have the vision of what you will have. Who you will become? what will change for the better when you reach your goals? That visualization makes you obstinate against any obtructions. You will find a way over, under, around and through anything that gets in your way.
  3. Focus Creates Speed – A person with purpose does everything fast. You will not procrastinate but you will get up and move towards your goals. that way you quickly close the gap between where you are and where you want to go. Focus understands the value of opportunities and will grab them with intent and purpose.
  4. Focus Simplifies Decision – An unfocused person is a wavering person. They set out to do one thing and when something else crops up, they forgo what they had set out to do in favour of this new agenda. If that is how you treat your goals you will never reach them. Know what is important. Have a priority list. Say NO to ANYTHING that takes you off the course that you know you ought to be on.
  • I am assuming that you have goals that you want to attain.
  • Embody the virtue of being unstoppable by having focus.
  • Clearly visualize what you want.
  • Resolve to get it.
  • Maintain your power.
  • Come out victorious and strong.

On TargetAs a network marketer, are you looking for the magic formula that will give you that breakthrough to start achieving the results that you have always wanted? Every year you set goals to achieve in your business but you never achieve them!

Pay attention to what I have to say. GOALS are not enough! Yes, you heard me right. Instead of goals, have a visual of who you want to become! I know that in our business for us to rank and be recognized, we must reach a certain level of income. I bet your goals have been based on the levels of income you want to achieve or the rank that you want to attain. Do not focus on the money or the rank. Focus on the person that you want to become. How do you want your team to know you? How do you want your family to know you? Focus on becoming that person and the results will follow.

Vision Road Sign with dramatic blue sky and clouds.Start by visualizing yourself being at that place where you are a leader that your team looks up to and asks for advice on how to be like you. See yourself as that parent who is able to provide for your children the important things in life. Let that vision pull you to take the actions that will get you there.

Your vision will inspire you to not make any excuses. It will eliminate fear and cause you to grow beyond what your current circumstances say you are. You will be able to overcome all the excuses that you have been allowing yourself to buy about why you are not getting the results you want.

Cast a vision of who you want to be. Tat vision will pull you out of bed when you do not feel like getting up. It will have you talking to more prospects about your product and opportunity with more purpose. Ultimately you will become the person who merits the income that you are aiming for.

If you enjoyed this and would like to get in touch with me shoot me an email at nomusamadlala@gmail.com. Look forward to hearing from you and see you on the next one.
