Three Career Mental Blocks Against Network Marketing To Overcome

A mind block stops visionary thinking.

A mind block stops visionary thinking.

When I got started with network marketing for the first time, I was a fully fledged career woman with a beautiful corner office working as a corporate executive with mental blocks to the profession.

What attracted me to the concept at first was the product. I loved the product and I saw a lot of value in using it. It was the kind of lifestyle product that I had always wanted for myself and my family.

I was very skeptical and suspicious about the business model of network marketing as I had never done it before and was yet to meet someone I knew personally who was successful in it.

The fact that I could not afford to use the product because of lack of extra money at the end of my salary opened my eyes to the fact that I needed to look at the business concept differently. Through it I could raise enough side income to be able to use the product that I loved so much.

That was when my journey in network marketing began. In this post I share with you three important mental blocks I had to come to terms with in order for me to start seeing some significant success with my business.

1. Understand The Power of Network Marketing
No. 1 of Mental blocks was that NWM does not work.

Network Marketing is a 100 Billion dollar per year industry. There are individuals that I know personally now who have completely changed their lives through this business model. From being frustrated, overworked corporate employees to being healthier, happier individuals who have cut down or completely eliminated their corporate office hours. I am one of those who are making an almost full-time income and have cut down the hours I put into my job related work to 30%.

Moreover, the job market in my resident and home country is shrinking daily and to see individuals who would have had no fall back after losing their jobs getting ahead to make a living for their families without a job is amazing. Also globally the baby boomer generation (of whom I am at the tail end) are retiring with less than exciting retirement packages. Many are finding a way of remaining relevant business-wise as well as beefing up their pensions through this noble profession. This article on the Forbes website is an eye opener on planning for retirement using network marketing.

2. Do Your Due Diligence
Number 2 of mental blocks was that NWM has no professional credibility.

One of the first steps I took after deciding to do the network marketing business was to do my background research. At first I started by Googling the company and the product. I must say based on what I found on Google, had I not used the product once before, and enjoyed the experience, I would have cancelled my membership and forgotten about the business. Some of the reports were so contrary to what I had experienced the one time I used the product that I knew they were lies. What I have discovered with time is that not all the information on the net is fact. Do a scientifically sound research exercise that covers a broad spectrum of criteria before making a conclusion.

So I decided to take a different route. I chose to attend a live event that the company was having in South Africa. I drove to Johannesburg and what I saw and heard there was enough to seal my decision. Meeting the company leadership from Head Office in the USA, listening to the long term business vision that the founders had and talking to local business reps and customers made me see the value of personally getting involved in the business as well. A friend that I trust with whom I partnered to do the research actually flew to the USA to check out the physical existence of the company. I even asked a former school mate who lived in the state where the company HQ was to go check them out as well. Their reports confirmed what I had already seen myself.

So do your research and make sure that the research is not just doing a Google search of the company name. Use your professional acumen and do a credible research exercise. Once your belief in the company and the business model they offer is secured, move on to the next level.

2. Believe In Yourself
Number 3 of Mental blocks was that I was too cool for NWM and I could not do it.

The fact that you are a corporate executive or a career professional means that you are an intelligent person who can make informed decisions about your financial future. Be confident about the decision that you have made. Approach your professional colleagues to market your product with them without shame or fear. Understand the mental barriers they themselves might have to the business model (you were once there yourself anyway) but do not seek their opinion or permission when promoting the concept with them. Shed off that I Am Too Cool attitude that I have seen cripple the networking careers of many conventional career professionals. The personal value that the network marketing profession has is way beyond what any job can offer (the earning capacity, the time freedom and the personal development you will build are invaluable). Believe in yourself and the decision that you have made and if need be, spend less time with those who deride the choice that you have made.

Long Term Success Steps In Network Marketing

Do you want to have long term success and build a sustainable network marketing business? Pay attention to this post.

Many network marketers are frustrated by short-term results. They start of showing the opportunity fast, get people to sign up and then realize they are in a rut. Team members start falling out as fast if not faster than the rate at which they are coming in.

They work hard but the results just do not come. They make a little money but it is not enough to feed the financial independence dream that they started off with.

There are three steps that you need to master in order to build long term success and sustainability into your business.

1. Select A Skill To Learn and Teach

For many new network marketers, the focus of their early activities is on sharing the opportunity. There is nothing wrong with that but many mess it up because of poor posture. They may score some successes and get people joining the opportunity and then discover that they do not have the skill of creating duplication for example and the people fall out.

Long term success is assured if as you share the opportunity you also learn a skill that will bring sustainability to your business. Look for a skill set to learn and master that matches your personality. For example you could learn blogging and SEO, social media marketing, PPC etc.

Mastering such a skill will ensure that you continue to have new people to talk to about your business beyond you family and current friends. You can then teach your team members how to do the same. That is what will ensure long term success for your business.

2. Work On Your Mindset

Think Outside The boxMy opinion is that skill contributes 10% and mindset contributes 90% to both your short term and long term success in network marketing. Your attitude towards your business is a reflection of your mindset.

New network marketers come in from a totally different paradigm. It requires a mindset shift on their part for them to start thinking like an entrepreneur. For example the two most important paradigm shifts that they will need to make are:

Attitude to making lots of money – As an employee you are accustomed to an income with a ceiling. In network marketing your dreams are your limiting factor. If you struggle with grasping that, you might not take off at all. Your mind will just refuse to accept the possibility of the figures you see and become paralyzed into inaction.
Attitude to Long Term Rewards – Again as an employee, you work for two weeks or a month and get paid. Your income is secure and it is directly related to the amount of time you put in. As a new entrepreneur, you will put in a lot of time and effort and the result CAN take time to show. Without a mindset conditioned for long term rewards, you will not last.

3. Build Relationships

Relationships countDo not see dollar signs on the face of each person that you meet. Take the time to know them. Do not rush to pitch your opportunity. Steady is the name of the game for long term success.

Whether you meet an individual face to face or you meet them online, they want to know that you care about them before they know what you care about. Converse with people. Listen carefully and ask relevant questions about them. Pick up their contact information and let them know you will be in touch about some helpful information.

If you meet online, share value content with them. At the right time take your relationship offline and call them. Never use the internet as a way of hiding from or avoiding talking to people. Taking things offline builds their trust and confidence in you.

Whether you meet offline or online, create the rapport and know when to pitch your opportunity. People buy from people they know and trust.

Mindset Shift Needed For MLM Success Skills Training

Mindset DefnA Skills Development Mindset Shift For MLM Success

The playing field is even in the network marketing industry. All the independent reps for a particular company have the same product(s) to market and they are also paid from the same compensation plan. So, if there is a rep who is able to sell the product and get paid handsomely while you are not, it is time you realized that if they can do it so can you.

So what makes the difference between success and failure? The answer might not be one that you were anticipating or one that you will be excited about. The difference is YOU. You are the difference!! Your attitude, your outlook, your mindset and your level of skill will determine your success levels.

Doctors go to Medical School to learn the skills necessary to be doctors and the people who teach them are the more experienced doctors who are considered to be specialists.

Surprisingly though, new network marketers do not consider it essential to learn how to become skilled professional network marketers. And rather than listen to those who are having success in the industry, the experts, new network marketers will gladly take advice from their broke friends and relatives. How many medical students will ask a high school dropout how to become a doctor?

In network marketing, your skill set and personal development commitment determine the level of success that you will have. You can only learn the skills and the kind of mindset to have for success from those who are having success.

The beauty about learning how to be a successful network marketer is that you do not need to leave what you are doing and enrol at an academy. You learn the skills as you do the business. It’s a ‘learn as you earn’ situation.

So, here are the steps to take for you to learn to be a skilled, successful network marketing professional.

  1. Change The Perfectionist Mindset

The perfectionist mindset that you were taught at formal school suppresses a lot of potential in you. The best learning model for success in this industry is Learn, Apply, Share. I call it the LAS Formula:

  • Learn by reading and listening to the experts
  • Apply what you learn. Go into the field and do it. Tweak it as you go.
  • Share what you have learned with your team

Because of the conventional education approach, many aspiring network marketers want to follow the school model of prove that you can do it, then you will be employed. Here we say, watch and listen to the experts, apply what you have gleaned and make it work as you go.

  1. Decide To Succeed

Go beyond your desire to have the success and make a decision to succeed. A decisive mindset for success will take you far.

  • Be accountable and take responsibility for your success. Quit blaming others or anything for your failures.
  • It is not your sponsor, your team, the product or the compensation plan that are responsible for what you get. You are!
  • Your sponsor is a resource person to refer to once in a while. They are not the key to your success. Determine to succeed with or without their help.
  1. Become a Professional

Network marketing is not rocket science and its simplicity can stump you. Having the mindset that all professions that pay well are difficult can make you to not take becoming a skilled network marketer seriously. Learn the simple skills required. For that little cost in time, money (no need for debt in student loans here by the way) and effort, you will be paid handsomely.

A Win-Win Mindset, Desire and Determination Will Get You Success

A Win-Win Mindset, Desire and Determination Will Get You Success

determinedYou must have a dream. You must believe in your dream.  Then you must pursue it with conviction and relentless commitment. You are capable of achieving what your heart desires through faith and action.

To quote Les Brown: “Are you hungry enough to do something about it?’ How much do you want to be financially free and get back your time so that you can pursue the things that make you happy?

There are sets of activities & mindset shifts that you should do that apply specifically to your situation in order for you to realize your dreams. Do these activities in an uncompromisingly consistent manner, and success is certain. You and your attitude are keys to that success.

Time and Financial Freedom Come At A Price

You want time and financial freedom through network marketing. Your reading this is proof of that. Success statistics in network marketing might not be that encouraging; meaning that the road ahead will certainly be difficult and even painful. Yet getting to your destination is not impossible.

You can never get something different for yourself by doing what everybody else is doing. Be prepared to break out of that comfort zone and do what you have never done before. There is nothing for nothing in life. So pay the price now, and you will get your heart’s desire of being able to do what you want, with whom you want, when you want and finish when you are done.

Sound impossible; lose that limiting belief. Sound selfish; then you are afraid of freedom and you do not believe you deserve it. So you will do all you can to sabotage yourself mentally. Until you believe it’s possible and until you believe that you deserve it, you will not be fully committed to the success levels that are possible in this industry and your actions will show. Conviction leads to fitting action and conviction comes from belief.

Success Takes Time and a Conscious Decision

Do not expect a giant leap but faithfully take it one task at a time, one day at a time. Many a dream have been killed either at infancy because the dreamer allowed fear and negative thoughts to  overcome them or just before fruition because the dreamer gave up too soon.

Decide to win. Do not allow anything or anyone to distract you or discourage you. Your desire and belief should spur you on to keep at it even when results are not yet visible and the rest of the world is wondering as to your mental stability.

Their wonder will ultimately turn into awe when the fruits of your labor finally manifest in reality. There is nothing like overnight success. All success is a culmination of committed, diligent action in the direction of the intended goal. Many a times the masses do not even notice the effort being made only to wake up one day to see a successful person.

Commit to Learn, Apply and Teach

As a network marketer there are skills and techniques that you will need to learn and implement in order to move your business forward. Make the commitment to learn the skills and take the time to put into practice what you learn. Learn with the aim to teach what you are learning to your team and get them to duplicate what you are doing.

Do your part and the God of the Universe will do His part of rewarding desire that is coupled with honest labor and faith.

Expect success….Get success. Some call it luck…..I call it faith or success by design.
