Prospects Who Say They Have No Time

Leverage Unlocks Potential

Leverage Unlocks Potential Some of Your Prospects

Are Some of Your Prospects Low on Time?

Have you ever spoken to prospects, showing them your business opportunity and they have responded that they like the concept but they do not have the time. For some time while I was still in full time employment at the beginning of my network marketing career I used to buy that excuse.

Today’s video will teach you how to overcome that objection firstly for yourself and then for your prospects.

Why I Used To Buy The Time Excuse From Prospects

I would have been in the office 8am to 5pm, dashed off to pick up the kids from school, supervised homework. Only after that I’d start working on my network marketing business. On some days when I put in extra hours in the office, I did not have the time to do my business at all.

So when they said they had no time, I agreed with them because I too had no time. I empathized thinking that they were justified in their position. What I had not realized was the power of leverage that was at my disposal.

I was working by myself to bring in personal new members and customers. I did not tap into my sponsor who was now in the same city as I was to help me with exposures. Had I asked her to help me carry the load I would have not felt the burden of working alone. Just having someone else to do the presenting on a 2 on 1 exposure takes away so much pressure.

Show Prospects How Leverage Works

What I do now is to make myself available to those new team members who want to learn from observation for their first couple of weeks as reps. They make appointments with their prospects and we go together to present.

We have also worked out a system of communicating with prospects that allows me to meet with and present to them in the team member’s absence. The system opens opportunities for me to come into contact with local prospects on behalf of team members who are not in my local area.

There are people looking for an opportunity to use your product or to make money from your opportunity. The only way to get to those who are looking is to present to them. Your busy new team member could have such people in their network.

My advice is that if time is one of their limitations, ask them if they will ever be able to release time if they do not start working with you to build a side income. You see most people who do not have time, it is because they are working extra hours in an effort to make extra money. Sadly most of the income generating activities consuming their time are not generating a residual income for them.

Let them know that it is not about them having tonnes time. It is about them carving out just enough time for the  two of you to meet the people in their network together at a pace that they can handle. You would do the presentation while their role would be to schedule appointments and watch you present. Also by using an effective communication system, you could even meet a few of the prospects in the member’s absence (I mainly use this approach for out of town members).

Even if you show 2-3 people a week, based on your new rep’s schedule, it is possible for them to start growing a team. Organizing a business launch meeting at the new rep’s house as soon as possible will also allow exposure to several prospects in one sitting. Once they enroll their first personal business partner, you repeat the process with that new member as well. This is called duplication.

Systematically demonstrate to a prospect who wants to get started but says they have no time. Help them to understand the possibility that exists for them to leverage your support as their sponsor. Unlike the formal employment sector, growing a successful network marketing business depends on team work, not individual effort.

Peace At Home For Your Home Business

PeaceCan there truly be peace at home for a budding home business owner?

Today I am going to share with you some of the mistakes that I made when I started my home business that contributed to my slow and erratic achievement rates. Pay very close attention because this will either make you or break you as a home business owner. This advice applies to both the full-time and part-time home business person.

  1. For Peace, Have that Frank Conversation

Do not be the kind of person who expects your family to be mind readers. For there to be peace at home, there are expectations and routines that go with being a family man/woman. Your children will expect you to play with them or attend their school activities. This becomes a big issue if you are doing your business full time. The kids might not understand why if you are at home all the time, you say you cannot give them the time that they believe they deserve.

When I first started working for myself from home, I was still in full-time employment. That meant that I had to do my home business activities after work in the evenings. I was already feeling guilty about not being there during the day as a mom. Imagine my dilemma when I now had to block out evenings as well. I found myself falling into the trap of wanting to do my business related work and being there for everything that the family did. I became a nervous wreck with very little to show on either front.

Things started taking shape when I realized that I could only focus and be effective on one thing at a time during my after-work time. So I clearly identified what my money producing activities were for my business; that was making those phone calls, doing the home meetings, talking to prospects and converting them to customers. On the home front I identified the stuff that I could delegate and that which I absolutely had to do. For example I had to eat and we could all eat together. Meal Times are a useful time to engage with the family and stay involved to keep that peace at home (more about that a few lines down this article).

Having identified my critical business tasks, I determined how much time I was going to put into my business and I called a family meeting. At the meeting I explained how I was all in to my business and really wanted it to work so that I could release more time in the future to spend with them. I let them know what it was going to entail and asked for their patience and our mutual sacrifice while I was at it. I promised to give it my all. I had quite a number of false starts until I realized that my success was really up to me and nobody else.

The trouble with most home based entrepreneurs is that after having that talk, you slacken and do not do what is important. It creates contempt, mistrust and disunity in the family and they develop a negative outlook to your business. Under-promise and over-deliver. They will support you to the top of your home business career.

  1. Have a Laser Focus During Business Time

Once you have laid it out there, be a man/woman on a mission. Do not allow distractions around the house to slacken you and make you ineffective. During the hours that you have determined to be your home business hours, be laser focused. No social media except if it is feeding into your goals, no chit chat when making phone calls, no up and down trips to the kitchen for snacks, no endless tidying up of your desk and sharpening the pencil. Get on with it. I wish I could have a better way to tell you the importance of being laser focused. Just be!

  1. Peace Comes From Giving The Family Your Presence

Meal times, family prayer times, or whatever time you have set aside for family activities, be there. Be totally present. Do not be at family meals with your phone by your side so you can answer text messages or comment on social media. Have the discipline to leave the phone and laptop in your office (I am assuming that you have a properly designated work area). You will achieve more buy-in and family support by strictly observing this. Nothing will irritate your wife, men :), than you not paying attention during the 30 minutes that you promised to be hers and the children’s time. Moms, kids if not given due attention become irritable and steal your peace!

So it’s out there now. Take it to heart. Apply it. You will see the results. One thing that I learned from applying these three principles was that contrary to popular belief, I do not need a lot of time to run a successful home business. I need a lot of doing the right things in the time that I carve out for my business instead.

Make The Slight Edge Work In Your Favor

Make The Slight Edge Work In Your Favor

The other day I was approached by a lady who was curious about what I did for a living. She was frantic and wanted me to take her on board so that she could start making money because she had just lost her job.

My internal response was a mixture of sadness and concern because I knew that the words she was saying were driven by fear and desperation as opposed to a sudden realization that my business model was legal and legitimate. Through a mutual friend, she knew what I was doing for business.

So calmly I asked her a number of questions not to dismiss her but to qualify her and make sure that she understood what she was asking me to get her into. A few probing questions revealed that she thought that by joining my team she would be guaranteed a steady flow of income the very next month end. It also turned out that with the knowledge of what she needed to do for that to happen, she decided not to sign up after all.

The Slight Edge Is At Work All The Time

The Slight EdgeYou see, what had happened while I was growing my business and she was comfortable with being in a job was that daily I went through the processes of growing both myself and my business. I was growing my business on the side while holding down a job so the months that I went without being paid a penny were not apparent to her because my job income covered me.

For some reason she was not prepared to experience those income dry spells while counting on the business to sustain her and her family. So she opted to start a buying and selling venture instead where she felt she had some control of income security (not sure how though).

This experience was a clear demonstration of how many people do not understand the power of The Slight Edge. I am making the income that I am making in my networking business today because of the compound effect of the work that I have been doing from the day that I started up to today.

The personal development initiatives that I have taken, the corporate trainings that I have attended, the doing the business that I have been doing have all produced who and where I am in my productivity level.

You Can make The Slight Edge Work In Your Favor

I am always amazed and just smile from within when I share the concept with someone and they ask how much I am making moneywise. Normally I do not disclose my income (it is confidential like anyone else’s income) but once in a while I indulge them. When I do tell, some look at me in disbelief because they think I am exaggerating the truth. What causes me to smile is the fact that people think that if I am making whatever amount of money from the business, they too can make the same just like that.

In my earlier days in this profession I heard a lot of “when I see your results I will join.” Well good luck with that because by the time my success and results start to show visibly I would be that far ahead of you in knowledge and experience.

What many people miss to understand is the power of time combined with action. Consistent action produces a potent compound effect that you need to respect each time you want to put off doing something that you ought to do now. The results of whatever action one is taking may not show now but it does not mean that nothing is happening.

One day the world wakes up as usual and they see this seemingly overnight success and they gape in amazement. What they did not appreciate was what was going on in the background through all the small action steps that the individual was doing (some simple and some complex) that has culminated in this gigantic success story.

So whatever it is that you are putting off doing, change your stance and take action. Even if you might not see the results now, keep taking the necessary action, develop yourself into a better person by learning but do not stop taking those small daily steps. Forgive yourself for past procrastination but decide that from today onwards you will not stop taking action until you get what you want.

Get More Productivity In Your Home Business Part 2

Time FreedomOn yesterday’s post we shared the first five of ten focal areas to master in order to maximize the usage of time in your home business and create the time freedom that you desire.

Today we give you the remaining five. If you make these 10 principles a part of your daily planning, you are bound to see the positive effects both in the quality of your life and your bank balance.

6. Make Deadlines Firm But Adequate
due dateSet deadlines for yourself as a home business owner. The absence of a deadline eliminates the motivation to do a task and places the task at the bottom of the pile of things to do. Be dependable to your customers and business partners by meeting agreed deadlines. Set deadlines for a specific date and time as opposed to a time period. For example “due on June 18 by 12:00 noon” is better than “in about two weeks time”. Make your deadlines adequate, not too tight. Build in a few extra days for the unexpected delays, last minute changes and a crisis in the home or on another project.

7. Protect and Value Your Time
Productive people do not waste time. They guard their time jealously. Get right to the point when talking to people. You risk coming off as abrupt to some people but understand that you cannot afford to everyone all the time they want. Choose who you spend time with. Be decisive. Say what needs to be said, do what needs to be done and move on.Value Your Time

Know the value of your hourly rate, commit it to memory and use it to weigh the effort required for specific activities and the return they will produce against the cost of your time. Weigh your options and always use your time wisely.

8. Stay Focused
One of the habits of successful people is to apply themselves to the task at hand. Work until the task is done. Concentrate on one thing at a time. Avoid going in many different directions. Do not be a talker. Be an actor, a doer. Have a vision and focus your activities to achieve that vision.

9. Set A Production Goal
Steinway makes 800 pianos in its German plant every year. An individual who truly wants to be productive sets a production goal, meets it and keeps going until they can do no more. The renowned author Joe Lansdale says he never misses his goal of writing three pages a day, five days a week. When people are employees, they will pitch up for work whether they feel like it or not. It surprises me that when the same person starts a home business they start accommodating “not being in the mood or feeling like it.”

10. Enjoy What You Do
Love what you doA Scottish proverb says “Be happy while you are living; for you’re a long time dead.” When you enjoy your work it ceases to be work in the typical sense. It becomes your passion. The vocation that you choose must be something that you love to do.

You will not love every project equally of course, but try to balance “must-do” mandatory tasks with things that are more fun for you. Remember we are not talking about you doing a hobby but we are talking business. So train yourself to enjoy what you do by changing your attitude. Attitude can be a trap or it can be freedom. Take your pick. Keep interested in the career path that you have chosen of working from home. It is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Get More Productivity In Your Home Business Part 1

Schedule ClockWhen you become a home business owner managing your time becomes that much more important as you now are your own boss and the boundaries between work and personal life can be blurred.

Mastering the art of working faster to produce desired results will introduce efficiency into your home business routine and release more time for you to engage in leisure activities such as reading a favourite magazine, hiking, or play with your toddler.

Here are the first five of ten ideas that can increase your personal productivity and give you the time freedom that characterizes the lifestyle of a home business owner.

  1. Master Your Home Business PC

downloadYou do not have to be a technology geek for you to have a well equipped and organized PC. Use a modern PC with the latest software installed. At the very least have the latest version of Microsoft Office and broaden your software packages in accordance with the specialized work that you do.

Constantly upgrade your desktop to eliminate computer processes that slow downloads of files or web pages. The internet is an indispensable tool for a home business. Get the fastest internet access you can such as an ADSL connection.

  1. Do Not Be A Perfectionist

Be a careful worker who produces excellent work but do not be a perfectionist. Customers do not have the budget for perfection. This does not mean that you be negligent or give less than your best. It means once it is done to the best of your ability deliver the work to your client or customer. Create it, check it and let it go. There comes a point in the production cycle when extra effort is not worth it. If you aim for 100% perfection you will not be profitably productive. A consistent 90-98% quality range will maximize both customer satisfaction and return of investment.

  1. Be A Good Copy Cat

Copy CatMany an entrepreneur has brought ruin upon themselves by wanting to always be an innovator. Be creative but do not place yourself under the pressure of being the first one to ever do things. Do not reinvent the wheel when there is a blueprint that you can follow and still make your customers happy. Most successful home business solutions are just common sense packaged to meet a specific need. Your best is enough without the pressure of your work being different or better than what others have done before.

  1. Inject Variety Into Your Project Schedule

As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. Arrange your daily home business schedule so you switch from one assignment to another at least once or twice each day. Keep your mind fresh and allow yourself to explore new areas, markets, industries and disciplines outside your area of expertise. About 70-90% of what you do at any time must be familiar tasks within your area of expertise, while 10-30% should be in areas, markets, industries and disciplines outside your current skill base. Allow room for imagination inside your work schedule.

  1. Work Only on Concrete Orders

Before proceeding with a project, make sure it has an existing buyer or customer. Do not waste time working on projects that you think customers might want. Obtain letters of agreement, contracts and purchase orders before proceeding with production. To create a new product line, be guided by results of a sound market survey, not what you think the market wants.
