Let God Speak. You Listen, Hear and Do

Quote about staying connected to God through Bible study
Stay cconnected to God

Proverbs 1:23 (NKJV) Turn at my rebuke;
Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.

What is the dictionary definition of the word rebuke? It is to reprimand strongly, strongly warn, restrain – according to the KJV Bible dictionary. None of us like to be rebuked.

A strong reprimand comes from one who knows better, as a bid to restrain the behavior of one who is naively doing things a certain way. If you are a parent, you have had to rebuke your child. You don’t start by rebuking though.

You start with laying down the rules. You let the child know what is right and what is wrong. When they go against what you taught them, you warn them not to do the wrong thing (the eyebrow :). When you know, you know, right! If they persist you may call out their name with a stern voice. The next step would be to punish them or reprimand them.

As you can see there is progressive discomfort with each stage. As a parent, again, you don’t like to have to reprimand your child, but you do it because you love them. You cannot leave them to continue with a bad habit. You do it to save them. Best choice for the child is to listen and do, to be obedient.

The same applies with us where God is concerned. God is our Father. He knows what is good for us and what is not. We may be adults by human age, but to Him we are as little children. He loves us enough to rebuke us and protect us from our wrong choices (Rev 3:19).

The way in which he does that is through His word and through direct discipline. When we read the Bible, we allow God to speak to us. Bible study is a way to know His will. Study (Do your best to present yourself) to show yourself approved of God (2 Timothy 2:15). By studying the Bible, we present ourselves available for God to teach us. He talks to us and we listen.

Again through Bible study, we get to understand the different ways in which God corrects us. So our safety lies in availing ourselves to God through Bible study and prayer.

You can never be alone or clueless about what is going on in your life regarding God’s expectations.

Perplexity and confusion only afflict those who isolate themselves from God’s word.

Through these daily devotions, we hope you will be kept at Jesus’s feet, to drink of the fountain of wisdom. Expect all: instruction, expressions of love, fun and rebuke. Always remember God love you through it all. Be blessed.
